Huda Alkaff, founder and director of Wisconsin Green Muslims
Waves of Change is a new online interview series highlighting the diverse faces and perspectives shaping the environmental justice movement throughout the Great Lakes region.
This month, we spoke with Huda Alkaff, an ecologist, environmental educator and the founder and director of Wisconsin Green Muslims. The group’s work touches a variety of climate issues, including renewable energy.
“We do education around solar assessment and consultations, and we connect with 19 different faith traditions and spiritualities around that,” Alkaff said. “We help many do their solar projects.”
Wisconsin Green Muslims also runs an initiative around rainwater harvesting. One of the components of Faithful Rainwater Harvesting is social, providing an opportunity for people to learn from one another and gather together for peer learning and sharing.
“Both are interfaith initiatives and both really celebrate the sacredness of water and light,” she said.
