Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin

Adult Fiction

Ayesha at Last, the author’s debut novel inspired by the classic Pride and Prejudice, is a classic story of mistaken identities, mixed messages and well-meaning but wrong-headed characters.

Ayesha, in her twenties, is alone and contemplating a career change.  She is determined to be a good teacher, and is also trying just as hard to keep her younger spoiled and silly cousin Hafsa from going off the rails. Hafsa is determined to have 100 rishtas before choosing a husband, but Ayesha can’t imagine frivolous Hafsa being serious and settling down to domestic life with anyone.

At a poetry reading, Ayesha, a poet, is noticed by Khalid who immediately gets the wrong impression.  Later, when Khalid and Ayesha are tasked to work together on a project for the Mosque, misunderstandings, mixed signals and confused identities prevent the two from acknowledging the truth between them.  Fortunately, through faith and hard work, the project at the Mosque is a success and Ayesha and Khalid are able to reach a level of mutual respect and admiration.

If you are looking for an entertaining book to warm your heart in this cold weather, Ayesha at Last, is the perfect choice – no mistake!
