Photo Essay: Eid al-Adha prayer service for Milwaukee’s thriving Muslim community

Muslims from all over the Milwaukee area gathered on Wednesday, June 28th, for Eid al-Adha prayer services at the Wisconsin Center at 555 W. Wells St.

The Islamic Society of Milwaukee (ISM) organized the community-wide prayer services. The early prayer, at ISM mosque, was led by its religious director, Dr. Zulfiqar Shah and the second, by Imam Ziad Hamdan, at the Wisconsin Center. Nine mosques in the Milwaukee area also held one or two Eid prayer services that day.

Cherrie Hanson is the special projects manager at the Milwaukee Muslim Women's Coalition (MMWC) and managing editor for Wisconsin Muslim Journal. She also manages the monthly Networking Brunch. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a focus on Women’s Studies. Cherrie is a writer, fine art photographer, vocalist and musician.
